Inheritance / Heritage ≠ héritage
Comment dire « héritage » en anglais ? Heritage est un faux ami.
Un héritage (ce que l'on reçoit d'un défunt) se dit an inheritance ; hériter, to inherit ; l'héritier, the heir. Heritage, en anglais, désigne le patrimoine culturel ou historique (world heritage site).
« He received a heritage from his aunt » fait penser à un monument classé. On écrit he inherited from his aunt, he received an inheritance. Les droits de succession se disent inheritance tax (UK) ou estate tax (US).
Vocabulaire lié : the estate (le patrimoine successoral), beneficiary (bénéficiaire, légataire), intestate (mort sans testament), probate (la procédure d'homologation du testament, sans équivalent français exact).

Under the will, the eldest son inherits the family home; the estate is subject to inheritance tax.
