Comment dire « testament » en anglais ? Will est le mot courant.
Un testament se dit a will ; faire son testament, to make a will ; le testateur, the testator. Testament existe (last will and testament), mais seulement dans la formule d'usage ou pour la Bible (Old Testament).
« He wrote a testament » sonne biblique. On écrit he made a will, he died leaving a will, the will names two beneficiaries. Un codicille se dit a codicil ; révoquer un testament, to revoke a will ; mourir sans testament, to die intestate.
Le testament olographe, authentique, mystique : formes françaises sans équivalent direct. En droit anglais, un will est valable s'il est écrit, signé et attesté par deux témoins (witnessed).
