Faire appel se dit to appeal (against a decision) ; la cour d'appel, the Court of Appeal ; l'appelant, the appellant. Mais un appel d'offres se dit a call for tenders ou an invitation to tender, et un appel de fonds, a capital call.
« We launched an appeal for the new IT system » annonce un recours en justice. On écrit we issued a call for tenders / a request for proposals (RFP) ; répondre à un appel d'offres : to tender for, to bid.
To appeal se construit sans préposition aux États-Unis (to appeal a decision) et avec against au Royaume-Uni. Interjeter appel : to lodge an appeal.
